I know...fast food places have gotten so expensive lately they are on par with sit down chains now.

A medium chicken parmesan combo meal at Burger King set me back $9.50.

Even Value menus went up. Instead of them being a dollar, it's now a buck seventy five.

Fast food in general is f***ing expensive nowadays. I have no idea who wastes so much money on it.

When I lived with my grandparents, they had a folder of to go menus from local restaurants. A few of them I swear were from the early 90s or so still. Like I'd see a full entree for like 5 bucks and I'm like "damn! I'm totally about to order from here!".

Then I call and make the order and it's like twice the price. :(

Fast food prices are crazy nowadays. I feel like they've doubled in the last decade
For a while now I would only get the burger and bring a bottle of water from home

I'm a supporter of higher minimum wage and accounting for inflation. But I don't really see the point you guys are trying to make by bringing this up in this conversation, because when expenses for a business go up (which wages are), they do usually raise prices to maintain the same profit margin.

it's silly when people say this. Have you spent time actually looking at the profit margin levels in the fast food industry? I bet they aren't all that big. It's really competitive. The franchise model also confuses things.

So every business is run by billionaires? Even chains usually have a dude that franchises to make his own store with that name and he doesn't make billions. And chains that became chains started out as small business that grew to the national level to where the owners could sit back and let people buy franchises from them to make their money.

Point is the established chains could probably afford it and not lose customers because their name is already out there and established. It'd hurt small business aspiring to grow more than anything, which is far from sticking it to these billionaires you claim to hate.

even if you try to eat cheap you're left hungry after. like the $5 box from taco bell is a decent deal but usually it's not much food. same with most other places when you try to get something cheap. mcdonalds i can spend like $6 but that's if i just want to get mcchicken or mcdoubles and a drink.

it's real easy to spend around $8-10 at any fast food place if you get a meal. you can go to coney island and get better tasting food for the same price as fast food. so i usually just get coney island now when i want a burger and don't wanna cook after work. just call and it's ready by time i get there.
McDonalds has gotten stupid expensive lately. Like at this point I'd rather go to an actual restaurant or simply the store. I work at a Taco Bell and even I see us ripping customers off in terms of prices (raise prices on Nachos, then cut the bag in half, then cut the cup of cheese in half, all while still raising the price).

Just go to a f***ing restaurant if you got the time ffs. Even Applebee's is cheaper than half this s***. Only reason I still like In-N-Out, I pay like $5-6 for my burger, fries and shake.

BK has some good deals. They got 2 cheeseburgers, fries, and a drink for $3.29 or $3.49. Then I pile another 10 nuggets on dat for $1.50.

Prices have gone up because the cost of ingredients especially beef have gone up.
This is what happens when fry cooks and burger flippers want $15 an hour.
Monolith1676 1 day ago#20
Pretty soon it will be $15 for a normal size meal.

I'd be in favor of their cause if not for the fact that the McDonald's, Burger Kings, and Wendys cooks of the burger world really suck ass.

Now the folks working at Bobby's Burger Palace, Five Guys, etc. on the other hand, they definitely deserve it.

the key to getting fast food cheap is to play in to whatever they're doing to improve their supply chain management

things are discounted because they have extra of them and are making more

so you buy those things

don't like the sale? don't eat there.

menu price for items are basically always a ripoff; consider it to be JCPenney rules where the only 'real' price is the sale price and anything else is an intentional ripoff price to make the sales look better.

and yeah, just like with contractors who dont actually want to do the work for you, you CAN pay the higher price for the item. it's just stupid to do so.

Why?

Because they flip thicker patties on tinier skillets? What's the f***ing difference? They're burger-flippers.

That box is 1,200 calories. That's more than half of a typical person's caloric intake for a day.

I know it doesn't seem like a lot of food, but it's calorically dense. If you drank a full glass of water after finishing and waited 10 minutes, you'd feel full/no longer hungry.

This.

If "inflation is a thing" is your argument against the realities of a drastically increased minimum wage you might as well just stop now.

I stopped eating at McDs when they took the McDouble off the dollar menu.

Dammit I remember when double cheeseburgers were on the dollar menu. Two slices of cheese for a buck!

literally not reason to pay more than 5 dollars at McDs when they are always surrounded by other tastier options for comparable prices. McDs used to be the dirt cheap place to go. Now they don't even have that going for them.

You know most Fast Food places are franchisees right? It's not just the CEO that gets hurt by it. It's the guy who owns the franchise. And he makes a lot less than the CEO.

Jack has the best deals usually. There's almost always a small combo featured thing for $5.
Carls Jr is so damn expensive I truly don't understand how they stay in business. The two in my town never, I mean never have cars in either the drive thru or for the sit down. It's always empty. If you're lucky you see a single car.
Remember when the "Six Dollar Burger" alone was like $4 and the meal was $6. Those damn things are like $7 and the fancier versions of it around $9 with the meals, the smallmeals being $12. Wtf? Those actually are restaurant prices. I may as well just go to Sizzler and have a burger at that point. Better food and nicer atmosphere. And it's cheaper! It's just madness with some fast food prices.
